The following letter came to me  as part of the consultation process for the new TY Programme and Senior Cycle SPHE curriculum.  Please read and submit your own comments if you wish.

Dear Principal,

As part of the ongoing redevelopment of senior cycle, the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) is currently updating the Transition Year Programme Statement and developing a curriculum for Senior Cycle SPHE.

A draft TY Programme Statement and SC SPHE curriculum are available for consultation.

There are several ways to engage with the consultations, all of which are outlined in the links below. We would very much appreciate if you could share the links with your networks and encourage parents, students and teachers to participate in this important aspect of the curriculum development process.

Transition Year | NCCA (closes on October 20)

Parenting and Technology Institute (PATI) 'Return to School Webinar'

Dear Principal, Parent,

With the return to school up and running and parents scrambling to adjust to new routines, there hardly seems to be a moment to think about how technology is changing all our lives.

As our children and teenagers begin another school year, we want to put in place some simple rules and tools to help manage the influence of technology whether it is around phone use, gaming, or social media.

Join me on Thursday 14th September at 6pm for an ‘Open Evening’ talk to explore key areas and issues to watch out for as our children begin another school year.

In the Webinar I will describe key issues to be aware of as parents, and I will share some tools and exercises to help our conversation with our children and teenagers so that we agree suitable boundaries about technology and set appropriate expectations.

The ‘Open Evening’ will also give me an opportunity to introduce the Parenting the Tech-Savvy Child programme, available in schools from the 26th September 2023, and aimed at helping the joint systems of family and school guide our children as they navigate the challenging new world of technology.

Places are limited so please register below asap!

We very much look forward to welcoming you on Thursday 14th September at 6pm.

Best Regards,

Richard

Presentation to Celebrate Fantastic Achievements of 3rd Year Student, Daniel Downey
Created : 06 Sep 2023, 6:05 PM
Archived : 06 Nov 2023, 12:00 AM
Today we celebrated Third Year Student Daniel Downey’s fantastic achievements, claiming gold while representing our school and his country.

We gathered our Second and Third Year Students in the GPA to make a presentation to Dan, following his success this year.

Ms. Mulhare, Dan’s Athletics coach in our school, began the presentation by reminding our students of Dan’s achievements to date-

-Leinster Champion in the High Jump, Long Jump, 800m in Schools and Clubs

 - 1st - All Ireland Schools 800m
- 1st - All Ireland Club 800m
- 1st - All AAA (Birmingham, where he represented his country) 800m

- 1st - All Ireland Outdoor and Indoor Pentathlon

We then watched Dan’s 800m race from the All Ireland Schools and as Ms. Mulhare said, there is no 15 year old in Ireland to run 800m faster than Dan, and he is in our school!!

Dan was presented with a canvas from his Year Head, Mr. White and a pair of Nike multi event spikes from Deputy Principal, Mr. Thompson, to mark the occasion and celebrate Dan’s achievements.

Once again, we couldn’t be prouder of Daniel and his achievements to date. Watch this space!!

Please head over to our social media accounts to watch the clips of Dan’s surprise!
