2nd Year Catapults

2nd Year Brandan have been working on the topic of “Energy” in Science, specifically energy conversions. Their task was to build the best catapult using lollipop sticks and elastic bands, testing them and improving their efficiency. The lads could see first-hand potential energy being converted to kinetic energy. Once they were happy with their catapult, they competed in the Catapult Challenge. Each group were given the same object and the group that projected the object the furthest were the champions. Using their catapults, they then had to design a project to investigate if the mass of the object affected the distance travelled. Each group prepared a poster and presented their findings to the class. Well done to Mark G and Artiom who were the overall winners!

Ms. Lalor's 6th Year PolSoc class have had a busy week. They visited the Dáil on Wednesday to observe our democracy in action and spent time in the galleries of both the Dáil and the Seanad. On Thursday morning they participated in a webinar workshop with Yvonne Campbell from Irish Aid. She explored the humanitarian work carried out through Irish Aid and we studied Zambia in particular. We picked this topic as the school has such a connection with Zambia with our own Immersion Project. The boys are also working hard on their own Citizenship Action Projects at the minute.

Monitoring Homework and Microsoft Teams

The school will run an online Microsoft Teams tutorial for parents on Tuesday the 6th of December at 7:15pm. This will demonstrate to parents how they can view their son’s Microsoft Teams page and review homework. Please note you must have access to your son’s Microsoft 365 username and password to access the link. After a long break due to exam season we’re back in action! This episode featured the delightful producer and director Richard Mansworth. Richard is a past pupil of St. Mary’s CBS and he talks about his experience at our school and his career as a producer and director.
