Teacher chats for College Awareness Week

As part of College Awareness Week our Podcasting Club interviewed some teachers discussing the route that they took after they finished school. This created conversation on all the different pathways our teachers took before they ended up in the CBS. The aim is to help students who are making the big decision about their next chapter of all the routes available to them from those who have been through the process themselves. A huge thanks to the teachers who have taken part so far. Next week we will interview some more teacher's and some 6th Year students on the possible avenues they are considering after school. #cbspodcast #fromeachtheirbest
Senior Rugby team advance to Cup Semi-Final

Today our Senior Rugby team played host to East Glendalough in Portlaoise Rugby Club for the quarter Final of the Anne McInerney Cup. East Glendalough started strong putting huge pressure on the CBS defence. Some clever play from the CBS backs saw Jake Darcy kicking a sweet cross-field kick to which Tadgh O’Sullivan collected and scored the opening try. CBS had found their feet now and not long after Daniel Thornton made a great break to get over the whitewash with Matthew Coonan kicking the conversion. From here East Glendalough got going and two tries in quick succession levelled the game. A hard fought first half with both sides breathing a sigh of relief when the half time whistle blew. A good half time pep talk got CBS going again and some great tackles and carries from Ivan Okonkwo and Evan Caffrey set the CBS up into a good position. A solid scrum followed by a huge carry from Jake Andrews left Robert Keane with the chance to get over from close range to put the CBS back into the lead. The momentum was now with the CBS who kept pressure on, and Ivan Okonkwo got over from a well worked move for his try. East Glendalough were not finished just yet and piled the pressure on again to secure their third try. With a converted try separating the teams Glendalough threw everything they could at the CBS defence, but they held strong with great work from Caffrey again at the break down and very clever kicking and turnovers from Man of the Match Robert Keane helping the CBS to hold out for the win. CBS now advance to the semi-final against Arklow CBS next week. #fromeachtheirbest

A big thank you to all who donated in-person and online to our shoe box appeal. Last Thursday and Friday our T.Y's assisted the Team Hope volunteers to sort and pack the boxes for delivery. The boys received a talk from one of the Team Hope team leaders who described the difference the shoebox donations make in the lives of the people who receive them. Also, thank you to Mary Signey who collected and dropped the boys free of charge. @teamhope #shoeboxappeal #makingadifference

Yesterday all 1st Years took part in the "Bin It" roadshow, as part of our Green School initiative. The topics of conversation were recycling, waste and gum. The students were able to answer nearly all the questions thrown at them and now have some more ideas as to how they can improve recycling and waste in their own lives. ️ #greenschool #fromeachtheirbest #litter&waste @laoiscoco @greenschoolsire
U16 Rugby team through to Cup Final

The CBS Rugby team march on to the Cup Final after an impressive win over a very physical Kildare Town CS. A repeat of last year's Cup semi-final brought the old rivals together again in Portlaoise Rugby Club. KTCS started very strong with a big carry from their number 12 deep in his own half breaking through the CBS defence to score a great individual try under the posts. CBS were rattled from this and KTCS kept the pressure on, but the CBS defence had finally got it together and kept them out. CBS got some momentum going and a fantastic run from outside centre Theo Adams saw him dance through to KTCS defence to score a great try. With momentum in their favour CBS kept the pressure on and Captain Cian Butler picked from the bottom of a ruck to power over for a great individual try. The momentum had really swung in the CBS favour now and Captain Fantastic Butler was all over the field with massive tackles and carries resulting in him getting in for another great try. Some clever kicking from out half Oran D'Arcy kept KTCS pinned back into their own half a great chase by Butler put pressure on their fullback with Eoin Carey on his shoulder to collect, he crossed the whitewash with ease. CBS came again with non-other than the wonderful Butler who had a fantastic break away try, moving the length of the field to score under the posts. CBS were now very dominant and closed out the game with another well worked try sending Aaron Fitzpatrick in in the corner. Some great individual performances from David Brown, Cormac Deegan, Ryan O’Brien McCormack and Daniel Downey to just name a few but man of the match had to go to Joey McGuinness who was immense right through the game with big tackles and big carries. A final score of 43 - 7 sending CBS into the Cup Final on December 15th in Donnybrook. Well done lads! #fromeachtheirbest

U19 Basketball Midlands Final Win

Hard luck to our U16 Basketball team who were narrowly defeated by Coláiste Ísogáin 42-45 in a spectacular Midlands Final. The lads fought until the very end and put Coláiste Ísogáin through their paces. We are extremely proud of their sportsmanship and effort until the very end. Our U19’s were victorious against Knockbeg 65-58. The game got off to strong start for Knockbeg. With the CBS under some pressure and 5 points down, they kicked it up a few notches and showed Knockbeg what they were truly made of. Patrick O’Callaghan was one to watch securing some key baskets for the CBS side. Despite dodgy knees and a strong stench of Deep Heat spray Paddy Fitzpatrick stole the show and had a standout performance. When he was not displaying excellent defending, he was scoring baskets. This paid off in the end and the lads secured an excellent win. Two extremely impressive games of Basketball, we’re extremely proud of both our teams, especially our two captains U16 Jack Fennell and U19 Aaron Dooley! Well done lads!! #fromeachhisbest

We would like to draw it to your attention that the School Year Calendar which parents have access to has one important change. Originally we were closed for Thursday 16th March, Friday St Patrick's Day itself and the Saturday/Sunday as normal. We have had to make a change:

We will be in school on Thursday 16th March 2023, closed on Friday St Patrick's Day, and school will be closed on Monday 20th March 2023 instead. This coincides with the dates of the Skiing Trip that same long weekend.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you, but we hope that by informing you as soon as this will prevent any problems when that weekend comes around. Thank you for your understanding.
