On Thursday, our Senior Rugby team travelled to Arklow Rugby Club to play Arklow CBS in the Semi-final of the Pat Rossiter Cup. Arklow were the team who knocked Portlaoise CBS out of last year's cup so old rivalries were being renewed and the CBS were hoping for some revenge. Unfortunately, the game didn't start as we would have liked and Arklow scored and converted an early try to take the lead. Thankfully, the CBS boys responded well with a great try from PJ Larkin and Matthew Coonan adding the conversion. Arklow weren't done yet and responded with another try of their own after some big carries. CBS came again with some good forward work sending Jake Andrews in for a try. Arklow led at half time 14 to 12.
Arklow started strongest again in the second half with a well worked team try giving them a 10 point lead. The CBS boys were finding it hard to get any traction until a snipping run from Jake Darcy, sent the impressive Larkin in for his second try. A huge conversion from Coonan made it a 3 point game in Arklow's favour. Arklow rallied again and piled on the pressure with some huge turnovers from Man of the Match Evan Bergin keeping Arklow at bay. They came again though and it was a super block down and collection that sent Jake Darcy the length of the field to score in the corner. The CBS were now 2 points ahead with the game on red. Arklow were not done though, and won a penalty just left of the CBS posts outside the 22-metre line. Their out half who had a great game had the kick to win it. Fortunately for the CBS he narrowly missed right at the death, giving the CBS boys a narrow victory and a place in the final. The Senior team will now join the CBS U16s in Donnybrook next Thursday for the cup finals. A great achievement for the boys and their coaches, well done lads! #fromeachtheirbest

On Wednesday, the athletics team traveled to St. Laurence O'Toole's Athletics Club in Carlow to compete in Day 2 of the 4 County League. This time the competition was Cross Country relays consisting of 4 members on a team. Star performance of the day was our Junior Men's team who came home in 1st place. This team was led out by Daniel Downey who got his team off to a great start and passed the baton over to Kayden Carroll in 1st place. Kayden had a brilliant run to just about hold onto the lead handing over to Dinny Whelan. Dinny put in a fine run on a tough leg and gave Dawid Wajrak a great chance going into the last round of the 500m loop. Taking the baton in 2nd place, Dawid soon caught the leader and made huge grounds to cross the line with plenty of time to spare! Well done boys and to all who competed on the day.
Special shout out Finn Darcy who ran brilliant moving up a year to make a team and also celebrated his birthday in style!

The Dublin Barista School were back in St. Mary's CBS with TY students this week. This post-primary experience offered students the opportunity to learn valuable hospitality skills, such as working with commercial espresso machines, hand crafting and important soft skills, such as communication and self-awareness. These skills enabled students to find employment and develop self-confidence in a fun and practical way!
