Book review templates are available from outside Ms. Lalor's classroom (RF51) and the library in Portlaoise have plenty of copies available to borrow. You have until the February half-term break to read and review this book. TY’s were treated to a fantastic celebration of Science today at the BT Young Scientist Exhibition in the RDS. They had the opportunity to watch several Science shows: "The Physics of Breakdancing" and the "Secrets of Superhero Science" to name a few. Really fascinating stuff! They perused the projects to get a better idea of what to expect for their own Scifest@School exhibition next month. They visited the exhibitors stands where they could participate in various games and experiments or try out VR devices all promoting Science in everyday life. And of course, they visited the food hall for lunch! The lads were all gentlemen and represented the school so well! Bring on our Scifest@School next month on Feb 2nd!!! @btyste #fromeachtheirbest

Today 2nd Year St. Canice investigated the effect of increasing surface area on the rate of carbon dioxide production. They reacted calcium carbonate (both marble chips and powder separately) and hydrochloric acid. They saw that the more surface area of the calcium carbonate that was exposed to the hydrochloric acid, the faster the rate of reaction. They learned by increasing surface area they can increase how quickly a reaction happens. #sciencefacts #fromeachtheirbest

Full payment of the fees is required before the exams begin in order for the exams to be sent away to be corrected. The school cannot pay the cost of Mock corrections. Having a Medical Card does not cover the cost of the Mocks, only the State Exams. It is possible to pay by installments on the School App. Thank you.

This January 20 th we are holding a Fun Run/Walk/Crawl here in the school over a distance of 5km. This fun run is aimed at raising money for Student Development here in the school, so to cover the ever-rising costs of guest speakers, school trips, extracurricular activates etc. It is our hope that all students will raise a minimum of 20 euros each for sponsorship to take part in the Fun Run. All monies raised are solely to benefit the students’ needs here in the school. We would hope that as parents and guardians you would all encourage your sons to return the sponsorship cards that they received with the monies they have raised. Thanking you all for your help and support.
