Two current staff members are moving on to pastures new: Jennifer Egan has been appointed as an Inspector to the Inspectorate of the Department of Education. Jennifer has contributed an extraordinary amount to the development of every aspect of our school. Her expertise in sharing outstanding teaching practice has been instrumental in supporting us to develop a strong academic and wellbeing focus. Additionally, Jennifer has engaged the entire staff here in significant Restorative Practice training. She has ensured that this is now firmly embedded in our ethos and vision. Jennifer has been a superb year coordinator and has also served on the school’s Board of Management. There is no area of school life where Jennifer has not had a positive impact. Jennifer will be hugely missed although I am not surprised that the Inspectorate has snapped her up. Trevor McAleenan is relocating to Cork where he will teach in Cork ETSS. Trevor is another outstanding teacher who has taught Graphics, Technology, Coding and SPHE in Goatstown ETSS. As well as being a super teacher, Trevor has led the development of the school’s digital strategy while finding time to contribute to the school’s after school sport’s programme. In moving to Cork, I am thrilled that Trevor will work in a sister school where his deep understanding of the Educate Together ethos will be valued. Trevor has provided uncomplicated support to us all throughout his time in Goatstown ETSS. We will miss him. An extensive recruitment process to replace Trevor and Jennifer and to appoint a range of additional teachers as we double in size is at an advanced stage. Jonathan Browner Principal
Dress Code

A reminder to our school community about our dress code: As you know, Goatstown ETSS does not have a uniform. We encourage our students to develop and to be proud of their own identity. However, school is a professional environment and what we all wear to school should be appropriate for that environment. • Clothes worn to school should be age appropriate, comfortable, clean and in good order. • There may be no offensive slogans or images on any item of clothing • Torn, ripped or very tight clothing is not appropriate • Make-up should be kept to a minimum • No fake nails (for health and safety reasons) • At certain times, students may be required to tie hair back (for example in a Science Laboratory or when using Technology equipment) • Jewellery, when worn, should not pose health and safety risks. Students may be asked to remove jewellery for certain activities e.g. sports • No underwear on show please. Note: On PE day(s) students are asked to wear appropriate clothes including sports runners and to bring rain gear.

Places in Second and Third Year 2022: We have had an unusually large number of applications for transfer into Second and Third Year from other schools for 2022-2023. We currently have no places to offer any of these families. If you are changing school for any reason e.g. relocation, please let us know as soon as possible so that the board of management is in a position to offer places to other students. Places in First Year 2022: This year group is currently oversubscribed and there is a waiting list. Late applications can still be made but these will only be processed should cancellations arise.
School Inspection

The school had an incidental inspection from the Department of Education before the Spring holiday. These inspections are random, and they normally take place without notice. The inspector visited several classes and had discussions with teachers, senior management and students. Unlike subject and other pre-arranged inspections, the outcomes of these inspections are not published on the department’s website. I am delighted to report that the inspector noted that: 1. All students arrive to class 'ready to learn' and there is little, or no time lost at the start of each lesson. 2. Students are extremely well behaved and teacher/ student relationships are very positive. 3. Classes are calm and productive with highly effective student outcomes and engagement. 4. Students reported that their teachers regularly give feedback in class and for homework. 5. IT is used very effectively in lessons. 6. The school is fully compliant in relation to its child protection responsibilities. The inspector noted that our SPHE planning was not as fully developed as other subject areas but recognised that this deficit had already been identified as a priority by staff and senior management. Overall, the inspector was very impressed at the standard of teaching and learning in our school. Jonathan Browner

Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers of Incoming First Years, Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have to change our transition afternoon to Thursday May 26th. Please see below about what to expect on the day: Students should arrive from 2.45pm and meet, in the first instance, in the hall of Ballinteer ETNS. They will be divided into six groups and will rotate through a range of activities including team building, Science, Technology and much more. The groups are not an indication of which class your child will be in in September. Our Additional Needs Coordinator will be on hand to meet and chat to students who will receive additional support in school. Some of our Second Years will be on hand to help to welcome your child. We would ask that you collect your child promptly at 4.30pm. Additional Information: There will be a parent information evening in early September. In the meantime, the school app and website remain the most up-to-date sources of information about events in our school. We look forward to welcoming your child to our school on May 26th.
