We have been asked to share information relating to an upcoming webinar to support adolescents engaged in self-harm.
Professor Eilis Hennessy is leading a research team from University College Dublin and Pieta on a project funded by the Irish National Office of Suicide Prevention They had a great response to their request for parents to share their experiences with supporting adolescents engaged in self-harm. In recognition of this they are hosting a final free webinar for anyone interested in learning more about self-harm in adolescents including parents, guardians, or teachers. This webinar will take place online on Tuesday April 26th, 2022 from 7 - 8 p.m. and will discuss their findings from this project and 5 things parents need to know about adolescent self-harm.
I have attached a leaflet with the information for this event and the Eventbrite link to book attendance to this webinar : www.eventbrite.ie/e/311033659047

Next week we will be marking Active Week in Goatstown ETSS. This is an important week where we will emphasise the benefits of exercise on our physical and mental wellbeing.
Did you know that young people are advised to be active at a moderate to vigorous level for at least 60 minutes every day? The HSE National Guidelines on Physical Activity for Ireland (attached) include a range of interesting findings on young people’s activity levels in Ireland and also the benefits.
Here is a list of some of the great activities we have planned for next week:
- Movement breaks during/end of classes to improve students concentration
- Walking club at lunchtime on Monday
- Yoga for each Clan Group with Mairead
- Hike around Ticknock on Wednesday (consent form to follow)
- 'Take on the Teachers' Challenge at lunchtime on Thursday
- Students encouraged to get involved with our after school sports program of badminton and basketball
- Students will be given an Active piece of homework to try each evening and upload to OneNote
- Students and staff are encouraged to walk/cycle to school if possible, for even part of their journey.
