Match Report - Written by Peter Burke and Robert Barry
St. Colmans (Midleton) 0 VS PBC 5
The U16 Soccer team traveled to Midleton to kick off their campaign in the U16 Cork Cup. They faced up against a strong St. Colmans side for their first game since spring 2020. The game kicked off at 12 o’clock in very windy conditions, with PBC facing into the strong wind. The back line of Tom Barry, Thomas Egan, Shane Collins and Zach Bradley withstood immense pressure at the beginning of the game. St. Colmans started the game strongly, applying great pressure to the PBC goal with Robert Barry as Goalkeeper. The first chance fell to St. Colmans. A deep cross into the box was met by an on rushing St. Colmans player but Tom Barry was on hand to make a great defensive block to keep the score at 0-0. The first goal came from a excellent ball over the top from Ronan O’Shea, capitalised on by Diarmuid Forrest, who rounded the keeper to finish. The next goal soon followed with Ronan O’Shea passing the ball to Peter Burke who calmly finished under pressure, with a slight deflection from Thomas O’Mahony. The boys, sporting orange jerseys led 2-0 going into half time.
They grew in confidence with the wind behind them and went 3-0 ahead as Barry Collins scored directly from a corner. He whipped the ball towards the back post and the strong wind aided the ball into the far corner. Only a short time passed before the Pres boys scored again. Again they scored from a corner, Dara O’Brien this time, again aided by the wind scored from the right side. The game continued and with the help of the wind the boys really pushed on, scoring a 5th goal towards the end of the game. Fiachra Wall advanced towards the goal line, before cutting back and placing a pinpoint cross in to Barry Collins, who stooped low to head into the far corner. This wrapped up the first game of 3rd Year with an emphatic 5-0 win. The PBC boys progress to the Quarter Final where their opponents are to be confirmed.

Great day out for PBC tennis yesterday! Our U19 team of Reem Gafurov, Christian Daly, Aidan Barry and Benjamin Linehan, triumphed over Christians in the U19 Munster Cup Campaign. They won 3-0 without losing a single point. The team performed to a very high standard, displaying great levels of tennis.
This win secures the team into the U19 Munster Cup final which will be held at a later date.
The U16 team also played yesterday, against Douglas Community School in cold and windy conditions. They played extremely well but, unfortunately, will not advance to the next round after losing 3 matches to 2, with two matches requiring a Championship Tie Break Set to decide the winner. Hard luck to the team: Jack O'Mahony, Colman Shanley, James Power and Barry O'Connor.
Congratulations to all involved, and a special thank you to Ms. Dawkins and Mr. Bohane for their help!

The Davis Shield is a competition that we run within the school annually to determine the best junior debater of the year. We had eight students from 1st, 2nd and 3rd year participating. This year’s motion was: That This House would stop teaching Irish in schools and it was a very competitive debate with many excellent points being brought up. This year’s Davis Shield was won by Liam Fitzgerald from 2nd year who was opposing the motion, a huge congratulations to Liam. ( Ronan Mc Auliffe )

Ronan Murphy, 5th Year, wins BIS Photography Competition!!!

Last summer, BIS (Business Information Systems) UCC invited Senior Cycle students in Cork to a photography competition with the theme of “Technology Making the World a Better Place”. Students were encouraged to capture a photograph with their smartphone of how they had observed technology benefitting their community. Ronan Murphy (current 5th Year) entered the competition.
Ronan's submission was a photograph of a home projector beaming a film onto an exterior screen, with three fellow fifth year students watching. The photograph was captured outside, and was praised by BIS for demonstrating “how technology created community and connection in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic”. Several weeks later, Ronan was invited to attend a small prize giving event in the O’Rahilly Building on campus. Here, he was presented with a Chromebook and shown an anthology of BIS students’ artwork.
Well done, Ronan!!!
