It was a busy weekend for the rowing club with the Junior 18s competing in Erne Head of the River, Enniskillen, and the Junior 14, 15 and 16 squads racing Skibbereen Head of the River on the Marina in Cork.

The long trip to Enniskillen was a fruitful one for the crew of Rex O’Sullivan, Andrew O’Leary, Ben Mullane, Darragh Buckley and cox Noah Giltinan who won the Junior 17 Fours and came 3rd in the Junior 18 Fours race, finishing behind a host of national champions and internationals in the crews from St.Joseph’s Galway and St.Michael’s Limerick who finished 1st and 2nd respectively.

This was the first Head of the River race of the season and a good test for our Junior 18 squad against the top crews in the country. The second crew of Eoghan Aherne, Adam Hartley, Leo Porion, Darach Fanning and cox Jack Carroll also had a good row to come 2nd in the Junior 17 Four race and 6th in the Junior 18 category.

On home waters on the Marina, Cork, a large entry from the Junior 14, 15, and 16 squads raced in Skibbereen Head of the River, a 3k time trial from the Port of Cork to Blackrock. The Junior 15 8 turned in a very quick time in their category, and this squad further impressed with a 3rd place finish in the Junior 15 Quad. There was a top ten finish for Sam Hernan in the Junior 16 scull and the Junior 14 squad rowed well and continue to gain valuable racing experience as we begin the winter racing season.

Next up for the rowers is the Provincial Indoor Rowing Championships on Saturday November 26th in the UL Arena, Limerick.

Massive kudos to all our past pupils who were part of the Munster Rugby squad who were victorious over South Africa A in a memorable occasion at Páirc Uí Chaoimh last Thursday. Shane Daly and Simon Zebo scored first half tries, while also playing their part were Alex Kendellen and Patrick Campbell along with brothers Rory and  Niall Scannell.

Our Senior & Junior Cup Squads enjoyed good wins on Wednesday over Munster CSP and CBC respectively in their Cup qualifiers.

Three of our First Year teams were in action last Thursday V’s Castletroy College in Wilton, with wins in all three matches. We would also like to take the opportunity to congratulate all our First Year rugby squads on their first away trip in Dublin and the victories against Terenure College.

Many congrats to our past and present pupils who were recently selected on the Rearden’s sponsored County All Star teams in both Gaelic Football and Hurling for 2022.

Transition Year Half year Modules

Dear Parent, two of the half year modules have been vastly over subscribed, life saving and Barista. Mr. Humphrey Porter has kindly agreed to run a weekend course for any boy who does not get Barista as his first choice. Unfortunately the life saving course is not available to us outside of school hours. We will first of all allot places to those that did not get lifesaving in the first half year module and there after on a lottery basis. The courses are all of value and we hope the boys will benefit from whichever course they are assigned. I will meet with the boys during theit first period on Thursday and make sure everyone is happy with their course. I will send a year plan out on the app in the early half of next week. I wish you all a happy New Year hopefully it will be a year to remember for you and all your families. Is mise le meas. Brian McMahon.

Friday marked the beginning of the 2022/23 Athletics Calendar as 14 athletes ventured out to Riverstick to participate in the Cork Schools Cross Country Challenge. All athletes ran extremely well, with special mention to our top 10 finishers: Conor Looney, Callum Harrington (1st Years) and Bobby Kelleher (4th Year). The boys also excelled on the Teams front, with our 1st Year Teams finishing in 3rd and 8th, and the 2nd/3rd Year Team finishing 4th.

Well done to all involved, and a special thank you to Ms O'Reilly for all her help on the day!

Music Society Open Mic - October Session

The fervour of anticipation was palpable as the stalls of the Dan Donovan theatre filled on what was a grey and languid October Friday afternoon on the Mardyke. To the south of the building the windswept trees subtly whispered a kind of knowing as, on the northern side, the grey river bulged and coiled against the back of the red bricked exterior. The buzz of electricity crackled as Amps awaited their chrome inputs; snare drums hissed amid the ambient flurry and rush of youthful adrenaline. Eighty-eight black and white keys sat at the ready, silently awaiting their youthful masters to bring an alchemy of touch that would fill the bowels of this great establishment. Impassioned youth. Raw talent. Teamwork and collaboration. Poetic words scored with decadent, yet subtle harmonies. Personal monologues that captivated the imagination. An effervescence of song and spoken word filled the auditorium and in the true Pres spirit of fraternal respect, the crowd punctuated the show with the warmth of grateful applause. And suddenly it was over…Bleary eyed and happy, the crowd filled the labyrinthine pockets of the great school to resume their work… till next time! David O’Riordan youtu.be/wp-YAMuhe6A
Cork Sculling Ladder Success

The 51st annual Cork Sculling Ladder took place this weekend on the Marina and there were strong performances across all junior categories from Pres RC scullers. Most notably there was a win for Leo Porion who had an outstanding row which saw him clinch first place in the Men's Junior 15 grade. Leo's time also placed him in the top 20 out of nearly 200 competitors, finishing above a number of older junior and senior athletes. Andrew O'Leary also had a strong row and finished 10th overall and second in the Men's Junior 17 grade, only narrowly missing out on top spot by 3 seconds. Well done to Leo and Andy, and to all the rowers who competed on Saturday and put in such positive performances.
