Francophonie Poster Competition

In order to celebrate French-Language and Francophonie Week (12th - 20th March), Ms. McGonnell organised a poster competition for her 1st Year students in PBC. Well done to winners Alexander McGarry (1B), Colman Shanley (1C) and Daniel Barry (1C) who have created beautiful posters in French on Senegal, Belgium and Canada.

PBC has established a Music Society!!! It meets on Wednesday afternoon, directly after school. After just two sessions, the teachers involved - Mr. O' Dave O' Riordan and Ms. Mary O' Driscoll, have told us that we have a serious amount of Musical Talent in our school!! If any other students would like to get involved, just turn up on Wednesday in the College Theatre at 12.55. We look forward to hearing some musical delights in the future. Well done to all involved!!

First Cut Youth Film Festival 2022 Winners Best Schools Film Congratulations to the first ever TY Film studies Module! Maurice Minogue, Daniel Prestwich, Alex McKenna Carroll, Liam Ring, Sam O’ Connell and Christy Hosford. The Film Crew had some fierce competition to win first place overall. This is a first for the school and all in PBC are extremely proud of their achievement. The student's talent and creativity for this module and competition was exemplary. First Cut! Youth Film Festival is an annual event based in Youghal, County Cork dedicated to showcasing new films by young filmmakers. It presents films in all genres by individual filmmakers, schools and youth groups as well as offering workshops and talks by film industry professionals. Well done to the boys, their teacher, Mr. Brian Casey and Ms. Nora Walsh for her help. A special thanks to Mr. Caleb Sheehan for helping to bring film studies into Pres.

The 15 Pres boys came out on to the field to an enormous wave of support from the PBC faithful and it didn't take long before they got off to a flying start with JP Curtin finishing off a brilliant passing move only 3 minutes into the tie. Pres were unfortunate to barely miss the ensuing conversion. A tense period of play followed in which Crescent sliced a penalty conversion wide, before finally forcing the ball over the line 10 minutes later. However, they yet again could not gain those vital 2 points as the ball was sent spinning into the woodwork from their kick. Fortunately, this wasn't enough to deter neither the fans nor players as Pres soon regained a foothold over the game. And on the cusp of the half time whistle, Eoin Hurley received the ball on the wing and outpaced the nearby opposition to touch the ball down for a second PBC try. The resulting kick from Pres was whiskers away from being converted and the whistle blew for half time, Pres 10-5 Crescent. Both teams had their fair share of chances from the restart before a sensational kick from Harry Murphy overcame the relentless winds that plagued both sides in the first half to increase PBC's lead. A chaotic period of play followed wherein Pres first had a try disallowed, much to the irritations of players and supporters alike. But as the saying goes "all good things come in threes", and Pres killed off the game 47 minutes in with a third and final try from James O'Leary before Harry Murphy converted the kick that followed. Both sides battles fiercely until the referee finally brought the match to a close and the celebrations began. The final score was 20-5 in a match which was primarily dominated by PBC. We all congratulate the boys and coaching staff on their performance today as they set their sights towards success in the final.

Transition year students and accompanying teachers braved the cold weather yesterday in Teagasc, Moorepark which is located on a 110 hectare site in North Cork with a dedicated Food Research Centre, an extensive Food Research Centre, Grassland Research Facility and a Pig Production Development Facility. Students attended the Agriware Walk and Talk event, this event allowed students to gain real-life experiences on working farms and attend talks from agri-food industry experts and leading academics in a practical environment.
Sci-Fest at School Competition

Congratulations to our runners up Dylan Swihart, Cian Hannigan and Jamie Cronin. Their project involved the investigation of the effects of different wavelengths on photosynthesis in plants. Our winners of the Sci-Fest at School Competition Louis Flynn and Liam Keville investigated the relationship between different species of spiders under the influence of certain variables. Well done to all groups who participated in the Sci-Fest at School Competition here in the Science Department of PBC. The runners up and winners prizes were selected by the External Sci-Fest Judges who questioned the students and group projects vigorously. All groups have submitted their projects to Sci-Fest at College in Munster Technology University, where they will further present their projects to a panel of judges and compete against other cork schools.
FAI Munster Schools Junior Cup 1/4 Final

Pres u-17s qualified for the semi-finals of the Munster Junior Cup with a hard fought 4-1 victory over Ashton in Moneygourney today. Facing into the teeth of a gale in the first half, Pres took the initiative and deservedly took the lead ten minutes in; Charlie Cummins controlled a loose ball from a Pres corner and stroked the ball into the bottom right corner with his deasog. What Cummins could do with his right foot , Sean McBride would do with his ciotog 5 minutes later; he gained possession 20 yards out, took a quick sidestep and his rifle crack of a shot buried itself in the bottom left corner; 2-0 Pres. Ashton gradually gained a foothold but when McBride had his legs swept from under him ten minutes before halftime, Sam Murphy stepped up and buried the resulting penalty. Ashton immediately responded and rattled the crossbar with Robert Barry then producing an outstanding save to leave it 3-0 at halftime. Ashton's Irish international Franco Umeh was a constant threat and deservedly pulled one back 10 minutes into the second half. However, Luke O Donnell, playing a captain's role, eased any Pres nerves by firing home after a great run to the byline and cross by Sam Murphy. 4-1 Pres and a semi-final spot secured. Robert Barry had a wonderfully assured game in goal, Harry Wixted gave an exhibition at right back and Sean McBride's left leg was a conductor's baton in midfield. It was another excellent team performance with all members of the squad showing the right attitude and spirit today. Well done lads.

1. Black and white to be worn tomorrow. 2. Those going to the match will make their own way home from Musgrave Park. 3. Bags will be left in the school overnight and collected before school on Friday morning. Best of Luck to the Junior Cup Squad and their Mentors!! Thank you.
