On Monday the 21st of March, PBC Senior Golf Team competed in the Irish Schools Senior Championship in Cobh Golf Club.
It was a 16 Hole Stroke event with the 4 best gross scores out of 5 to count.
In very testing and windy conditions, PBC finished 2nd place overall on 265, just 2 shots behind the eventual winners CBC on 263. Ten schools competed. Although disappointed not to win, it was a great experience for us all and we enjoyed it hugely. .
The Competition was U19s and the team consisted of five 4th Years, Ryan Lyons (+1) +5 Over, Sean Deasy (1) +6 Over, Barry Keane (3) +2 Over, Greg Lougheed (5) +4 Over and John Wigginton Barrett (9) +9 Over.
It would also be great to see PBC golfers competing in next year's Junior (U16) and Senior (U19) Championship.

Congratulations! to Luke Whelan 5th year. Luke's short film (Student During Lockdown) has been shortlisted in the OUR FRAME OF MIND Competition!
Every year the competition grows and they are always impressed by the effort that goes into each entry. We have been told that the standard this year was very high.
This year the Frame of Mind Award Ceremony will take place virtually. The winners of 2022 will be revealed in a YouTube Premiere at 12pm on Thursday 24 March.
The Our Frame of Mind short film competition aims to improve mental health awareness and remove the stigma around mental health difficulties. Well done, Luke, and best of luck on March 24th.

PBC V CRESCENT: Match report by Seb O’Donoghue and Hugh McCarthy

The Pres Senior Cup campaign ended in disappointing fashion as they fell 26-5 to Crescent.
PBC were on the back foot from the first whistle but threatened to turn the tables when Harry Coughlan gathered a loose ball from an errant Crescent ruck in his own half. He broke through for what looked like a nailed on score, only to be dragged down by the last Crescent defender, just mere inches from the line and unfortunately the chance was lost.
Crescent struck the first blow after 15 minutes from close range after they worked an overlap on the right wing and the conversion was added from the corner.
The gap was widened 5 minutes later as Crescent’s full back scored a marvellous solo try, and with another successful conversion the score was 14-0, which it stayed until half time.
Straight after the restart, Crescent capitalised off a mishap in the Pres lineout and dotted down untouched in the corner, and with the ensuing conversion missed, the score stood at 19-0.
However, Pres heads did not drop and the team showed great character and resilience. Their valiant efforts were rewarded with a well-deserved try through hooker Danny Sheahan to claw the score back to 19-5.
They were constantly spurred on by the roaring support, the 16th man who never lost his voice. The crowd hoped that maybe they could witness another miraculous comeback similar to the semi-final against Christians.
However, PBC, unfortunately, couldn’t build on their first try. Crescent collected another score, this time under the posts after charging down a Pres kick to make the final result 26-5.
Despite not getting their hands on silverware, the campaign can still be considered a success, as the players and coaches enjoyed a great run, which they should all be proud of. Most notably the thrilling aforementioned 21-19 comeback against Christians in the semis, a game that will live in the minds of Pres fans for a long time.

Pres had an excellent performance in this year’s Regional Applied Maths Team competition recently. The joint efforts of our 5th and 6th Year applied maths students proved very successful on the night. Congratulations to our team consisting of William Hetherington, Charlie Neville and Sean O Coilean who won on the night and Fionn Coleman, Mark Fitzgibbon and Isaac Lee who came second.
Congratulations to 6th Years students Ronan Barry, Diarmuid O’Connor, Darren Sheehan and Isaac Wheelock who participated in the National Final of Team Maths at the weekend. In the regional round of the competition in January, they finished joint first and as a result they were one of 12 teams selected to take part in the national final where they finished a commendable fourth place.
We wish to acknowledge the students involved for their exemplary work ethic and dedication in preparing for the competitions.

Congratulations to our fantastic cross country runners who outdid themselves in the National finals in Belfast this weekend.
Our Minor team braved an extremely muddy course and finished in 5th place. An outstanding performance from each of our athletes Tom Kelly, Paul Kelly, Bobby Waters and Andrew Hinds.
Conor Twomey competed in the Intermediate category, excelling in a grueling 5km and finished in 48th place. Conor is eligible to compete in this age category again next year, so to achieve such a high position this year is particularly impressive.
Huge well done to all involved, including their team members that aided their qualification from school trials, South Munsters and to the Munster Championship.
