Dear parents and guardians,

In preparation for our first Pres Smartphone Free Day, please find below a link to a very interesting radio segment in which 2 parents provide insights into why and how they are navigating a smartphone free life for their children / young teenagers for as long as possible. They discuss both the difficulties and benefits inherent in this endeavour. 

Below the link to the radio segment you will see the parent-driven website to which they refer in the radio interview. Looking at the information provided in this website might be a nice activity to do with your son as we prepare in Pres, to go phone free for a day! 

Further, more detailed information will be provided to staff, parents and students as to how this day will operate in terms of where phones will be stored ( stay at home maybe?!); how you will reach your son(s) if you need to etc. nearer the day. Already we have received very good ideas from pupils as to how we can make this day work. Your support will be so important to the success of this day and we look forward to working together with you for the benefit of all the pupils in our school community.

 Dear Parent / Guardian,

Health Promotion & Improvement, HSE, are hosting a webinar for parents on the topic of vaping. This will include information on what vapes/E-cigarettes actually are, who is currently using vapes according to recent research and the associated health risks of vaping.

The event will also discuss tips on how parents can discuss the topic of vaping with their children and how parents can work effectively with schools to address the problem.

Attached is a flier with information on the webinar and details on how to register.

Registering for this webinar is very simple using the link / QR code on the flier. 

Please note, our school has no further information, so if you have any queries you will need to contact the HSE directly.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

 

There will be matches and training for first years on Wednesday and Friday of this week. This will replace our usual Tuesday and Thursday sessions for this week. 

Wednesday - 2 matches v Crescent in Wilton ko. 2pm, training for the rest. The boys will be bussed up after school and will be finished at 3.30.

Friday - 3 matches v St. Marys in Witon ko. 2pm, training for the rest. The boys will be bussed from the school at 1pm and will be finished by 4pm.

Supervised Night Study

Dear Parent,

Firstly, happy New year to all and apologies for the delay in posting information, with the weather concerns we felt it was in the best interest of all to delay the start of the night study.

Supervised night study begins next Tuesday night at 6.15pm in the study annex and will run Monday to Thursday, 18.15 to 21.15, for a total of 17 weeks this term. Starting Tuesday, 14 January 2024. Finishing Thursday, 29 May 2025. Please see PDF attached for costs and full details.

    • Study will not take place any night the school is closed.

    Ø  School Holiday: Monday, 3 February, 2024.

    Ø  Midterm Break: Monday, 17 February to Friday, 21 February, 2025.

    Ø  School Holiday: Monday, 17 March, 2025.

    Ø  Easter: Monday, 14 April to Friday, 25 April 2025.

    Ø  School Holiday: Monday, 5 May 2024.

Night study is completely separate to after school library sessions and is restricted to 3rd year, 5th year and 6th year students. It is not on the easy payments system at the moment but hopefully that will be available later in the term. 

Please see forms attached, all forms and payments to be returned to class A3, Cheques to be made out to PBC.

Easter camp 2025

Dear Parent,

Our Easter camp will run in the Pres rugby facility at Dennehys Cross, Wilton,T12F297 week of April 14th-18th, Monday to Friday, 09.30 to 13.00 daily. All the activities will be outdoors so it is important the boys come prepared.

There is absolutely NO REQUIREMENT to buy a hurley or helmet

They should bring the following daily:

·         Packed lunch

·         Water

·         Gumshield

·         Boots and trainers

·         Shorts

·         Tracksuits

·         T shirts

·         towel

·         Change of clothing {Plenty in case of inclement weather)

·         Hurleys and helmets

We will be sizing the boys also on Monday for their gear next year and keeping it on record. It will be a busy week, they will be kept going. They will have at 15 min break and 10 min break. There are toilet facilities on site but no shop. We will not allow the boys to leave to go to the shop. Boys must be collected by an adult each day at 13.00. They will be split into different groups each of the 5 days in an effort to get to know as many of the year group as possible. We are here to help, so if there is any issue please let us know immediately. The rain will not deter us, so there could be a lot of washing. We look forward to meeting and getting to know the boys over the week. Hopefully we will have a few special guests during the week also.

Training after school today Thursday is cancelled due to weather and the condition of the pitches. There will be mixed matches for all on Saturday morning in Wilton. On pitch for 9am and finishing around 10am.

Mosque Visit Thursday 13th February

Hi All, Just letting you know All 3rd Year students will be visiting Cork Mosque, Tramore Road on Thursday 13th Feb. We will be leaving at 9:35 and will be back for 11:55. We are getting a bus but students are not required to bring any money etc. One thing that we are asking is for them to be in full uniform and to be respectful of this sacred place for Muslims. Islam is a major part of the JC RE course and this visit will be helpful to the students as they prepare for their pre exams after midterm. Thank you for your cooperation with this. Alison Crowley
