Please find below the link to a radio segment which we believe would be of interest to all parents. American social psychologist Jonathan Haidt was speaking to Brendan O’Connor about his new book "The Anxious Generation" and the link between technological dependency and mental ill health/ addiction/ bullying etc.
It is a most interesting interview which once again highlights the dangers of social media to the mental health of our children and teenagers. He concludes the interview with 4 helpful guidelines which can be put in place by both individuals or communities which could lead to significant and positive changes in the lives of our teenagers.
Hope it’s useful to you all.

Dear Parents
We are looking forward to another fantastic outing for our TY boys tomorrow. We will tackle the Limerick Greenway between Abbeyfeale and Newcastle West. The day will consist of 2 x 2hour outings, the morning will be a 2 hour hike for half the boys while the others will be on a 2 hour cycle, we will lunch in the Barnagh Gap and swap for the afternoon. The weather, is promised good, thankfully. I would suggest bringing a change of clothing just to be on the safe side. I would also suggest a smaller bag for carrying our the back while cycling/walking. This should contain lunch and plenty of water.
There will be cafe and toilet facilities in the Barnagh gap but I suggest bringing a packed lunch in case of any delays. We will leave at 08.35 precisely to maximise our day and hopefully we will be walking and cycling by 10.30 we will lunch altogether at 12.30 and at 13.00 to 15.00 reverse the mornings activities. we should be back at the college gates for for 16.30 all going well. Look forward to seeing everyone in the morning. School tracksuit or shorts with comfortable runners or hiking boots. Lads should bring a cap and sun cream, maybe that is just for the fairer skinned like myself! It is a normal school day so attendance as always is compulsory and illness must be notified in the normal way. Beir bua is beannacht.
Is mise le meas,
Brian McMahon.
