The Student Council Supporting Stand Up Awareness Week - We are on Instagram too! It’s Pride/BelongTo’s LGBTQ+ Awareness week, whereby we reflect on the struggles the community has been through and unfortunately still go through in their fight for their very own rights. As an inclusive school community, CBC always strives to support and celebrate the LGBTQ community in all that we do. You may see some posters around school that we urge you to look at (yellow of colour). Let’s acknowledge the LGBTQ+ community and show our full support. Brought to you by CBC Student Council, Diversity & Equality Officer’s. We’re now on Insta: cbc_student_council

On Wednesday 15th December, Transition Year students hosted our annual outdoor TY Christmas Market. This year we welcomed first and second year students of Coláiste Bhríde to the event, along with students from neighbouring schools, Scoil Aodán Naofa and All Saints National School. The market was a hive of activity and excitement for all in attendance, with decorative Christmas lights and Christmas music setting the festive scene. Visitors had an opportunity to browse and purchase an array of high quality products that were on display on the day. The TY Christmas Market acts as an opportunity for TY students to sell their wares, but also as a stepping stone to the County Wicklow Student Enterprise Competition. Of the forty plus mini-companies in attendance on the day, ten mini-companies will be chosen to progress to the next stage of the competition. A special word of thanks to our judges, Mr. Damien Byrne (Eason's Bookshop, Gorey), Mr. Noel Comer and Ms. Caroline Young (Victor's Newsagents, Carnew), who were so generous in the giving of their time for the event. Further photos will be available in the gallery section of the app.

Concern Debates vs Donabate Community School

This week our senior Concern team successfully proposed the motion ‘School strikes are an effective way to get governments to act on climate change.’ The team of Isabella Ni Chonaill, Elise Davidson, Seán Doyle and Saffi Vickers passionately argued the case that significant and impactful change has occurred as a result of school climate strikes. The league phase this year takes place live over zoom as a result of the pandemic. We commend our students and Concern for their adaptability. After an intensely competitive debate it was Colaiste Bhride that came out victorious. The team look forward to their next debate on Tuesday 17th November.

Battling Girls Soccer Team carve out a well earned victory.

The Girls senior soccer team battled to a hard earned victory over Roscrea CC in Lamberton, Arklow today. In blustery conditions the CB side had to come from two goals behind at half time to defeat a strong Roscrea team. These footballers proved that when things weren’t going their way and it would be easier to roll over, instead their true character came out and eked out a one goal win. Today’s performance was a real example to all our school teams. Well done to all the girls who travelled today and to Ms. A. Walsh for the support.

We are delighted to announce that our clothing collection held on the 14th October successfully raised €1000 for our schools partnership with Self Help Africa. Thank you to all those in our community who cleared out their wardrobes for us. Another special thank you to all the fantastic students who gave freely of their time to help out on the day. Through the Cash for Clobber program, items have been sent to Cookstown textile recycling centre. In the space of 12 hours our school had gathered just under 2.5 tonnes of donated items.
