On Thursday our TY GCE and sustainability modules attended a very informative workshop with Mr Jim Kirwan from Self Help Africa. The theme of the workshop focused on sustainable agriculture. Our students examined the differences and similarities between small scale local agricultural practices and larger agricultural systems. Mr Kirwan also shared some interesting and educational images displaying the excellent work of Self Help Africa from past trips he has taken to areas in which the charity works. In the coming weeks, our students will further develop their knowledge through the completion of a reflection task based on this workshop for their TY portfolio.

Coláiste Bhríde travelled to Warrington Equestrian Centre, Kilkenny on Sunday, 7th November to compete in the Equestrian Interschools Ireland showjumping competitions. The school was represented by Chloe Walsh, Sophie Wilson and Cian Byrne in the novice class. A couple of unlucky poles on the ground kept this team out of the prizes. Two teams with only three members on each, went forward from CB in the Open competition. The yellow team was made up of Sarah Sheppard, Johnnie Sheppard, Hannah O’Neill and the blue team members were Chloe Walsh, Cian Byrne and Chloe Massey. All riders produced super rounds of jumping but it was the blue team that got into the jump off on a score of 0 faults. Out of the 17 teams entered in the competition, 7 got through to the jump off. Chloe Walsh and Cian Byrne were our two nominated riders to jump against the clock. Drawn third to go it left us with important strategy decisions to be made early. Both riders jumped top class rounds in very fast times, without incurring any faults. There were only 4 teams double clear in the jump off. The final line up was; 1st Presentation Kilkenny 2nd Coláiste Bhríde Carnew 3rd Loreto Kilkenny 4th Newbridge College Congratulations to all who represented the school! Next week’s competition moves to Wexford Equestrian Centre.

The Jnr rugby team took part in the South Leinster Blitz today. This qualifier is used to place teams in either the cup or shield competitions. The CB squad played a total of 8 7-a-side matches which was very tough for all envolved. After a slow start, where the lack of games over the past two years was evident, the lads soon began to show what they are good at and the tackling, ball handling and carrying improved with every game. The day was of great experience with many 1st years and new older players announcing their arrival in the scene. We now await the full results to see which competition we will take part in. Well done to all involved!
