School Jackets & PE Half Zips

I'd like to clarify again for parents what we are asking the lads to wear and do with regard to these items of uniform. Several stories seem to be going home that are confusing parents and I hope to answer your questions with this notification.
The half zips are NOT in stock in SHAWS. They have been out of stock since September. When a student says he cannot get it in SHAWS, we believe him. In particular the larger sizes. Nobody is punished for not having it. O'Neills are held up with the order but they should be ready for the January return to school. For PE, the lads are expected to just wear a black top if they can't purchase the half zip, any colour T shirt and black bottoms. Of course, wearing the half zip is the aim, and they all look really well in them.
The school coat IS IN STOCK in SHAWS. Once inside the door of this school, no other coat or jacket is to be worn. If it is cold in the classrooms, as it is lately, your son should either wear extra layers under his uniform or you can purchase the school jacket in SHAWS. If he is in 6th year, you may not wish to do so, but he still cannot wear another jacket inside the school or on school trips. This rule has been in place since 2009, it is not new, it only relaxed last year after lockdown.
If your son is in any year from 1st - 5th, he really should have the school jacket. He will get the wear out of it. If he hopes to do TY, he definitely needs it as he will not be able to wear anything other than his uniform on those TY trips.
To conclude, if your son is doing anything other than wearing the above he is asked to remove it. If they argue and fight about it, they may find themselves on detention. The rules are very clear. We appreciate your support in this, and as many of you work in uniforms yourselves, you understand these requirements are there to be followed. For those parents who have purchased these items it is only fair that the rules applies to all the very same.
Thank you and have a lovely weekend. MM

Today the TY's took a trip to Emo Court for their Horticulture module.
Resident Horticulturist, John, showed them around the gardens and arboretum pointing out trees and plants of interest. The lads learned about the features that some of the trees have developed to help them survive and thrive. They got to visit the walled garden that isn't open to the public and learn about the history of the garden and the importance it had for the local community. It was a beautiful afternoon to take in the autumn colours and for a stroll around the lake too @emocourtopw #horticulture #ty2021 #thegreatoutdoors
