Wishing all our JC and LC students luck and inspiration tomorrow morning...

We wish all our JC and LC students the best of luck as they begin their exams this morning. This is one of those things each student must do for themselves, nobody else can walk into the exam hall and begin the exam for you. This is what you have been preparing for, for some time, and your teachers and your parents have done their best for you to get this far. And you can do it.

Please find attached here a letter from An Taoiseach, Simon Harris, wishing you all the best as well as reassuring you all that no exam can define you, you are all so much more than that, and there are so many ways to achieve your dreams. And you can.

Read the paper a few times, pick out your best questions, make sure you are not leaving a section out, some exams are quite complicated and it is was to leave something out. So READ the choices, see what you can do. Then remain in to the last minute and keep writing - as I told you last week, the examiner HAS to mark every single word on each page. And little marks add up.

Good luck lads!!

Back to Back U17 Leinster Division One Titles for St. Mary's CBS!

️ U17 Leinster Division One Winners ️

On Monday morning St. Mary’s CBS boys and their coaches traveled out to Killeshin Astro for the Leinster U17 A League Final against Patrician’s Secondary School Newbridge. ️

The CBS hoped to retain their title as league holders from last year, however, it was Patricians that hit the mark first with a quick counter attack that led to a long range goal from their striker ️
The CBS responded well, having the majority of the shots in the first half but could not find an equaliser before the half time whistle.

The CBS boys continued this domination into the second half before constant pressure from our frontline led to a corner which Conor O’Callaghan whipped in to the 6 yard box, where a goal line scramble ended up in Ryan Morrin️ finding the back of the net.

️Darren Brennan got the ball around 30 yards out and turned his favoured right boot to fire the ball into the top left corner to put the CBS ahead.

With St. Mary’s finding the lead, Patricians began to put pressure on the CBS back line and goalkeeper Liam Conroy made multiple fine stops. However, with Patricians committing men forward, it left space for the CBS to counter attack and striker Jonathan Pukuta beat his defender to go one on one versus the keeper but fired the ball just over the bar from point blank range. Unfortunately, pressure led to Patricians equalising in the dying minutes from a cross which found the number 8 who slotted it past Liam Conroy.

This led the game into extra time, where both teams pushed for the winner but neither could find a breakthrough in the first half of extra time. However, in the dying minutes of the 2nd half, Captain Darren Brennan️ took the lead role with a solo run which he started from the half way line to make the game 3-2. ️
The CBS managed to hold out from there and retained there title as Champions ️
Their coaches Mr. Dunne and Ms. Hyland are extremely proud of this team and their efforts this year. Deserved winners Well done all ️

Thanks to Shane O’Sullivan and Fergal Naughton for the match report

On Tuesday 23rd April, three of our students went to Cork to represent our school and Student Council at the ERST Student Congress. Demi Sonupe, Kyle John and Tiernan O Dwyer travelled to the heart of Cork City where they engaged in lively discussions and shared ideas about the needs of our school communities and the role of the Student Council in addressing those needs. Our lads made great friends, especially with the students from Eamann Ris Scoil, Cork. The boys spoke well and were a credit to the school.

TY Soccer team reach Leinster Shield Final!

️St Mary’s CBS Leinster Shield Semi-Final win over St Oliver’s Drogheda️

The CBS traveled all the way to Louth to face St. Oliver’s in the Leinster TY Shield semi-final.
The TY squad faced difficult weather conditions after an early morning start ️
Both teams started the game strong with St Oliver’s striking first, putting them ahead 1-0. Before the half time break the ball fell to Captain Conor O’Callaghan️ and he slotted it in to the bottom corner to leave the sides equal at the break.

St Oliver’s kicked off the second half with a goal to leave St. Mary’s CBS trailing by 1.
But ten minutes before the final whistle Darren Brennan️ bagged a goal to leave the sides level.
Just moments before the final whistle was due to be blown, Jack Egan was fouled inside the box to get a last minute chance to seal our place in the final.
Darren Brennan stepped up to take the penalty but unfortunately it was not to be as it went over the bar and the referee blew the whistle for full time, leaving both sides drained heading into 20 minutes extra time.
Both sides battled hard in both halves of ET but no team could break the deadlock bringing them to penalties.

The CBS scored 5 out of 5 penalties, St Oliver’s scored 4 penalties and as the last player for St. Oliver’s stepped up to take his penalty, William Graham O’Shea dove to the rescue to send the brothers through to the Leinster Shield final.

Penalty scorers:
Darren Brennan️
Conor O’Callaghan️
Jonathan Pukuta️
Jack O’Sullivan️
Harry McGree️

1st Year Coding Students Embrace Multicultural Week

Embracing diversity and coding our way through languages! For multicultural week, our first year coding students are designing Scratch programs that translate English into different languages. The program asks the user to input their desired language, and then to input the message they would like translated. It then translates the message and prints it beside the Sprite!
