Portlaoise CBS kicked off their rugby season yesterday at a Leinster rugby blitz dat held in Cill Dara rugby club. The blitz was attended by 9 Leinster schools, with three of those being laois schools Portlaoise CBS, Mountrath CS and Colaiste Iosagain Portarlington. Each team had between 3 and 4 games and each game was 20 minutes long with no halftime. The CBS boys got off to a winning start defeating Confey Collegy (Lexlip) and Mynooth Post Primary in their first two games. CBS third game seen them compete against old rivals MCS. As usual this was hard fought battle with spectacular rugby performances displayed by both teams. Unlucky for the CBS boys they narrowly missed the mark on this occasion losing to MCS by just one score. Despite this rivalry however both teams really showed what development rugby is all about and joined forces for one last game. Both teams made the brave decision to leave off all their most experienced players in favour of compiling a team of rugby newcomers. This band of novices rallied together to hold St. Kevin's of Dunlavin to a 0-0 draw, in what proved to be one of the most exciting games of the day with both CBS and MCS players enthusiastically supporting their teammates from the line. What a day for the CBS boys to debut their new gear! Lets hope their year continues as it has begun. This was truly a brilliant day for the CBS and for Laois youth rugby over-all. Man of the match on the day: Sean Downey.

Tobar Nua facilitated our 2nd year retreats this year. The boys found the retreat very meaningful as it centered around things that were relevant in their lives. The day was interactive with lots of games and reflective activities. The second years enjoyed would highly recommend it for next years students. A big thank you to Ms Moore for organising these.
