On Tuesday last, 113 of our TY students got to travel to Croke Park, the home of GAA in Ireland. This iconic stadium has been at the heart of Irish sporting life for over 100 years. With a capacity of 82,300, it is the fourth largest in Europe. During the trip to "Headquarters", our students got an opportunity to visit the GAA Museum with it’s exhibition on the Bloody Sunday massacre. They experienced the inner workings of the stadium on match days, visited the dressing rooms and warm up areas, lifted the cup and got a bird eye view from the top of the Hogan Stand. Undoubtably the highlight for the majority was getting to do Skyline Tour with it’s wonderful views over Dublin and its many iconic landmarks. We capped it all off with food in the Museum Cafe. Many thanks to Ms. Ní Bhroin for organising and to all the teachers who accompanied the students.
On Tuesday next, 5th March, our TY students will get the opportunity to visit Croke Park, home of the GAA. Students will leave Carnew at 8am sharp, full school uniform must be worn and a signed permission slip must be submitted. There will be a guided tour around the stadium, which is the third largest in Europe as well as a trip to the GAA Museum. Students can bring a packed lunch with them on the day or they will be able to buy lunch also.
Students will be back in Carnew for buses at the end of the school day.
Looking forward to a great day.
The TY team.

Courageous in Defeat: Coláiste Bhríde, Carnew, Shows Resilience Despite Loss in Basketball Clash.
Match report By Rachael Dee
On Monday the 22nd of January, Colaiste Bhríde Carnew’s u19 girls’ basketball team and their two coaches loaded up a bus and set off to the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght for their All-Ireland quarter and semi-finals.
The girls played St. Louis Rathmines in their quarter final, and although they were nervous, they never showed it for a second.
St. Louis opened the scoring, getting two points on the board, but they didn’t hold their lead for long before Carnew’s Yasmin Dagge levelled the match.
It wasn’t long before Carnew’s youngest player, Grace Colfer, got in on the scoring adding another three points for her team. The Rathmines side got two more points before the quarter ended, leaving the score 5-4 in favour of Carnew.
The second quarter really showcased the teamwork of both teams. Grace Colfer did all the scoring for Carnew, but it was clear she couldn’t have done it without her talented teammates. The help ranged from Yasmin’s skilful screens to Emma Kinnear’s ingenious interceptions. With that being said, St. Louis didn’t make it easy and were constantly on the hunt for scores of their own.
The third quarter opened up on a score line of 17-15 to Carnew. It was during this quarter where it became clear that Grace Colfer was absolutely unstoppable, once again, securing all of Carnew’s scores. The Rathmines team, however, were still relentless in their efforts to gain the lead.
The final quarter opened, and it was clear that Olivia Shannon wanted her name on the scoresheet, and she succeeded in no time by racking up four points for herself. Grace then chipped in adding two more points, which was quickly mirrored by Yasmin.
St. Louis pocketed themselves four points just before Emma Kinnear managed to finally add her name to the list of scorers with a very deserved two pointer.
Grace Colfer closed out the game with a free throw, and her twenty-fifth point of the match!
Final score:
Carnew- 35
St. Louis- 23
A few short hours later, Carnew returned to the court for their semi-final against St Joseph’s Spanish Point Secondary School (Co. Clare)
The game opened on a positive note for Carnew with Olivia Shannon taking lead on the court, scoring back-to-back two pointers followed by a three pointer. Spanish Point quickly retaliated with a three pointer of their own, and from then on it was a back-and-forth battle ending the quarter with Carnew up 14-8.
The second quartered followed a in a similar fashion of back and forth between the teams ending with the score being 21-16 to Carnew.
Spanish Point came into the final half of the game with a vengeance, scoring back-to-back three pointers to level the game. Carnew held strong and never gave in to the tiredness they were undoubtedly feeling after the very physically challenging first half that they endured.
Grace and Olivia continued to add scores to the board along with the support of their team, but unfortunately it just wasn’t enough.
The girls fought to the very end with the help of the subs, the supporters, and most importantly their coaches, Mr. Gleeson and Ms. Dermody, who never once gave up on or let down their team. Many thanks to them.
Final score:
Carnew- 33
Spanish Point- 43
Best of luck to Spanish Point Secondary School in the All-Ireland Final.

First Year Girls Soccer
On the sixteenth of January, two second year students travelled to Google headquarters in Dublin, to represent the school at Google’s Safer Internet Ambassador Training programme.
Sinead Whelan and Lily Kate Buttle participated in the day which was attended by representatives from schools across the country.
The students attended informative lectures and participated in group discussions.
However, the highlight of the day for them was listening to a talk and meeting James Doyle, also known as ‘Protein Bor’ who is an Irish Tick-Tok influencer.
Thanks to Ms. Elliot for arranging for the girls to attend.
