The 1st year girls had a commendable win against Gael Coláiste na Mara, 4-6 to 2-7.
Scores from Billi Bannon, Hannah Sweetnan and Naoise Ryan saw the girls progress to the quarter finals.
Well done girls!
Our TY students have thoroughly enjoyed their first two days in Killary adventure centre, situated on the beautiful Killary fjord on the Galway/Mayo border. So far students (and teachers!) have immersed themsleves in activities such as stand up paddle boarding, high wall climbing, the infamous bog challenge, archery and more. Each evening has been packed with entertainment in the Killary dome and by the campfire. The weather has been mixed today but the spirits remain high!
Congratulations to past student (LC 2024) Harry O'Keeffe who was presented with a sports scholarship by ATU Sligo recently. A huge congratulations to Olivia Shannon, fifth year, who made history on Saturday night by scoring the first ever goal for Waterford FC Women in their first season in the Senior Women's League of Ireland Premier Division. Olivia also made and scored her side's second goal from the penalty spot in a 0-2 win away to Sligo Rovers to again make history and secure Waterford FC Women's first ever victory (and clean sheet) at this level. Olivia was selected as Waterford FC Women's Player of the Match and was interviewed live on TG4. Well done Olivia.
Well done to our 1st year hurling team who defeated Ferrybank CS in Carnew on Friday, in the South Leinster championship. The lads have now qualified for the semi final which will take place in a couple of weeks time.
Colaiste Bhride started this game brightly and some well take scores helped to open up an early five point lead. However our forwards were frustrated on numerous occasions by the in form goalkeeper from the Kilkenny side who made several top class saves to keep his side in the game. At half time the home side had managed to stretch their lead out to 8 points on a scoreline of 0-9 to 0-1.
The second half was more competitive hurling wise, however the Colaiste Bhride boys managed to raise three green flags at crucial times to ensure a comeback from the away side was never on the cards.
At the final whistle the scoreline read 3-15 to 2-4 in favour of Colaiste Bhride. This was an encouraging display from all 23 players involved and we look forward to seeing what they can produce for the rest of the year. Well done lads!
Our Second Year Boys' Hurling team took on Ramsgrange Community College today in challenging wet and windy conditions in Ramsgrange.
The home team took an early lead, but Carnew applied constant pressure, narrowly missing two goal opportunities in the first half. Demonstrating grit and determination, the Carnew team fought hard throughout the second half, but Ramsgrange ultimately secured the win.
A special thanks to Mr. Doran for his dedication and mentorship of the team.
