Requests for a change of class for your son

I hope you are all enjoying the lovely weather, and that you all enjoyed some form of break during the summer.
Each year classes are formed for 1st years, 5th years and TY years on a fairly random basis. Sometimes we are advised that students should not be placed in the same class and sometimes a very valid reason is provided why a students really must be with another student.
But each year once the class lists are made available to home, the texts, calls and emails begin to flow in - and it is not possible to make these changes for several reasons. Firstly, everyone in class A may have their own preference but didn't get it, but if one gets it why can't they? Secondly, to move one person into a class means moving one other person out of that class - he may not be happy so the cycle continues. We end up disrupting more people.
The boys are not in their classrooms 7 hours a day. They are in option classes, on the yard and corridors for lunch and breaks and they mix continually. Those in TY who are unhappy with their class have signed up to TY and what it means - get out of your comfort zone, this is a safe year for you to meet new people, experience what you never thought you'd do before, and all of that. And it begins with getting on with the class you have been randomly selected for.
I cannot keep up with the calls, emails and texts coming in the last 2 days for change. We will never have a situation where everyone is happy to be exactly where they are. In a month's time, they will have moved on and found new friends, which is completely normal, making all this a waste of time. I hope that this notification will suffice as a reply to the requests myself and others in Admin have been receiving. We will not be changing anyone's class this week. In the unlikely event that a move must be made in late September or otherwise, it will be made for reasons other than wanting to be with their friends. It could be made for curricular, access to support, behaviour or one of many other school based reasons. I apologise if this sounds harsh but it is the fairest response which I can make to everyone at this time. Thank you.

Delegates have access to recordings for 30 days. From £30, don't miss out, book early.

Language regression, communication development, and Autism
In this podcast we talk to Professor Will Mandy, of Clinical, Educational and Health Psychology at UCL. Will explains what ‘late diagnosis’ is when talking about autism in children, and shares insights from his recent JCPP paper. This includes why some children get missed, the role of diagnostic overshadowing, and why girls were overrepresented in the late diagnosis group.
Austism and Eating Disorders
For this session of our informal journal club CAMHS around the Campfire we welcomed Dr. Francesca Solmi (pic), UCL, and Dr. Lisa Dinkler, Karolinska Institutet to discuss papers on Autism and Eating Disorders. ACAMH members can now receive a CPD certificate for watching this recorded lecture.
Autism Topic Guide
Our free evidence based Austim Topic Guide is ideal whether you are new to the Topic or want to find the latest research. For example did you know? 'Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often runs in families and there are strong genetic influences in the development of ASD. If a child has ASD, there is about a ten percent chance that another sibling will have it (Wood 2015).'
How to help schools
A really helpful session with Dr. Lucy Sanctuary, Speech & Language Therapist and Cognitive Behaviour Practitioner, Dr. Ann Ozsivadjian (pic), Independent Practitioner and Honorary Researcher at Kings College London, and Fiona Slomovic who supports parents and carers in ensuring that their child’s additional needs are met.

Booklist Information to make things easier for you
Created : 17 Jun 2022, 2:43 PM
Archived : 30 Sep 2022, 12:00 AM
Booklists have been published in the Notifications. They are also to be found under the 3 lines on top left, go into School, then School Code & Policies where you will find them now at the top of the list there. The difference is that notifications move down over the next few weeks, whereas the School Info has it fixed on the top of the list for you.
If you don't look at them today and more notifications are posted during the summer, you will find it difficult to locate under Notifications. However, you will notice that there are 3 dots beside each book list giving you the option to email the one you want to yourself to make it easier to find, or allow it to be saved to your phone and work offline anytime, save it to your Google/OneDrive and file it under your own items and there are other options. These options also allow you to print them for your own ease.
Have a good summer all!
Booklists for 2022-2023-please note the correct elective has been added to the Geography 5th year list- apologies for any inconvenience.

A reminder to all parents and students that this Monday, September 26th, our school will be closed for the day. This is due to beginning on August 24th for teachers and on August 22nd for 1st years. All schools must open for students for the same number of days, but we are allowed some autonomy with the extra days when we begin earlier.
I hope all students get a chance to recharge and relax. It has been a ver busy and intense 5 weeks. Take care.
