St. Mary’s CBS defeat Rathangan in the U17 Soccer Leinster League semi final!
Created : 03 Mar 2022, 4:14 PM

The game started off very fast paced and after 8 mins of hard work and testing the Rathangan defence, Sean Keane got on the end of a rebound from Darragh Prendergast to put the CBS in front 1-0. The Portlaoise side conceded a penalty that was well taken by the Rathangan number 11 to level it 1-1 at the 21st minute. Before the end of the first half Sean Keane took on the goalkeeper and earned a penalty. Keane stuck the ball in the net, his second goal of the game to put CBS 2-1 up.
In the second half the home side kept the pressure on with the likes of Darragh Prendergast, Desmond Peter (man of the match) and Charles Ogundere keeping the Rathangan defence on their toes but they held stronge. With 10 mins left Rathangan made chances but the CBS defence, George Okpara in left back and James Devoy made the necessary clearances to keep the lead. Overall it was a brilliant performance by the U17s who now progress to a Leinster League Final. Well done lads! ️ #fromeachhisbest
U19 Soccer team progress to League Final!

In dramatic fashion the CBS U19 Soccer team came out on top of CPC Killcullen with a 3-1 win to secure a spot in the League final! CBS started very strong and took control of the game early. 12 minutes in, a mistake at the back allowed Kieran O’Donnell to play Colin Conroy in on goal and give CBS an early lead. In the dying minutes of the first half CPC started to find their footing in the match but Portlaoise weathered the storm led by Aaron Doran. The second half was end to end between the teams, until the 66th minute the CPC center back scored a wonder goal from 30 yards out, equalising the game. This goal was a massive boost for the CPC boys going into the dying embers of the match. Nevertheless the brothers didn’t drop their heads, 75 minutes in Colin Conroy played a delightful cross field pass to Jamie Toman who buried it into the net making it 2-1 with 15 minutes to go. CPC didn’t hesitate to get back into the game with a flurry of goal chances from set pieces. With 9 minutes remaining Daire McDonald intercepted a pass out from the back and landed the ball at Ben Doyle’s feet, who didn’t hesitate to rattle the net and seal the deal.
This was an all round impressive performance from all the boys in black and red but especially today’s man of the match, Colin Conroy.
Well done to coaches Ms Hyland and Mr Glavin. ️ #teamwork #cbsabú #fromeachhisbest

St Mary's CBS had a convincing win over Scoil Bhride Carnew in the South Leinster Quarter Final on Tuesday March 1st.
An early point and goal from Darren Brennan settled the CBS lads. This was followed by a point from Joshua Finn. Carnew came back with a goal and two points in quick succession. Portlaoise replied with a flurry of goals from Jamie Gorman, John Phelan and Oran D'arcy, and points fron Darren Brennan and Joshua Finn brought the half time score to 4-4 to 1-4 in favour of the Laois boys.
The Carnew boys took advantage of the wind and scored three points early on in the second half. However, Portlaoise held their heads and a goal from David Brown steadied the ship. Again, Carnew battled back with two goals and a point. Undeterred, Portlaoise dug in and scored three points without answer from Darren Brennan, John Phelan and Oran D'arcy. Carnew came back with a late point but Portlaoise retained control and held strong for the last five minutes.
Final score: Portlaoise CBS 5-8
Colaiste Bhride Carnew 3-9.
Portlaoise take on Mountrath CS next. Well done lads!

Dear Principal,
Bus Éireann are currently accepting applications for transport, under the School Transport Scheme, for the 2022/2023 school year.
I have attached a notice which includes some of the most important FAQ’s and would ask, if possible, that you circulate this notice to all students at your school but in particular potential 1st Years. To note, pupils currently on transport do not need to reapply.
It is imperative that Bus Éireann receive as many applications as possible early to ensure we can examine each route and give the best possible service to pupils, under the scheme.
Applications are made online by the parents at www.buseireann.ie/schooltransport
I appreciate your continued support in this matter.
Regards
