Benildus College 2-2 Marian College
(Paul Fox 2)
Our Senior soccer squad pulled off another great result, drawing 2-2 with the group favourites, Benildus College. Leading 1 níl 15 minutes into 2nd half Tom groves suffered a bad injury. We had to wait over 45minutes for an ambulance. When the match resumed we scored a second through Paul fox. But we were down our strong man in defence and conceded 2 late goals. Nevertheless it was a great performance and our thoughts are with Tom groves today.

UNDER 16 AND 19 BASKETBALL TEAMS QUALIFY FOR SEMI FINALS

The under 16 and under 19 basketball teams booked their places in the Dublin semi final yesterday with two big wins. Both games were played in UCD with the under 19 team beating a spirited Coolmine team and the under 16 team beating Castleknock.
The under 19 game was close during the early stages but when the Marian team picked up their defense they were able to create turnovers and force missed shots which led to fastbreak opportunities that the team was able to take advantage of. It was a balanced attack with each player contributing to the scoring and on the day we proved too strong for Coolmine and ran out winners by 20 points. Up next are St. Davids in the semi-final.
The under 16 game was blown wide open from the start as Marian got off to a quick start and took an early lead. The early lead put the team in cruise control for the rest of the game and with everybody getting to play it was a good all-round display which sets the team up nicely for their semi final against Colaiste Chiarain that will be played next week.

Marian College 3-2 Palmerstown CS

PALMERSTOWN OUT-FOXED
Marian made a winning start to their league campaign after a brilliant come back effort in Irishtown today. In hurricane conditions in the first half Marian trailed by a goal due to some sloppy defending from the Marian back four but to be only a goal down in the conditions at half time was an achievement in itself, the conditions were that bad.
The weather eased somewhat in the 2nd half and Marian came into the game due to some good work from sub Martín Hernandez. He found Paul Fox with a deft pass and Fox scored a screamer with his left from 30 yards. As Marian searched for a second goal, Palmerstown caught us on the break and went 2-1 up with 8 minutes left on the clock. But the Marian lads never gave up and Conor Mooney scored an overhead kick from a Fox pass and Fox scored the winner with minutes remaining after a super one-two with Ryan O Rourke. A super squad effort from the Marian lads especially Martín Hernandez,Conor Mooney and man of the match Paul Fox.

A group of students from Marian college competed in Blackrock College's annual cross-country event. The boys competed at Minor, Junior, Intermediate and Senior levels. Although we didn't end up with any medals all performed to the best of their ability with particularly strong performances from Justin Millo 103 who finished 13th in the minor event and Mark Tresson 303 who finished 18th in the Intermediate event. Each category had at least 60 participants. Well done to all involved!

Marian College 1-9:5:6 Templelogue College
Marian were unlucky to come up against a strong Templelougue side in their first championship game of the year with a number of key players missing. Although Marian started well with some great play from Patrick McNamara and Daniel Bailey, Templelogue rushed into a big lead with a strong wind behind them to lead by 9 points at half time.
Marian pulled back the deficit somewhat through the determination of Leon Montgomery and Mark Tresson in the 2nd half but Templelogue were just too strong at the end and ran out deserving winners. But this was a good performance on many levels for the Marian Boys with good displays from Bailey,Montgomery,McNamara and Josh Whelan in the goals.

Over 40 students and 4 teachers travelled to Manchester by boat and bus to watch Manchester United take on CSKA Moscow in the Champions League. The annual trip again turned out to be a great success as the students were a credit to themselves and to Marian College. The journey was made even more enjoyable when Wayne Rooney headed the winner in the 79th minute giving United a 1-0 victory.
