On Wednesday, the 5th year Geography group climbed the Sugar Loaf in Wicklow as part of their field trip investigation. At 501 metres tall and weather conditions blustery, the group conducted their investigation incredibly well. The field trip gave the group first - hand experience of research and investigating; and sets the group up nicely for next year's Leaving Certificate field trip worth 20% of their final Geography grade. Mr. McEvoy, Mr O'Reilly and Mr. Lindsay would like to commend the group's impeccable behaviour and enthusiasm. .

U19 BASKETBALL SEASON FINISHES UP

The under 19 basketball season came to an end on Wednesday 20th of January with a tough loss to Abbey Vocational School from Donegal. After a big win in Clare last week the team were up against a strong Abbey team with the chance to get to the final stages of the All Ireland competition up for grabs.
Marian were missing some key players through illness which wasn’t ideal but once again all the players showed great commitment and team spirit throughout the game to give us a fighting chance. The game was close during the first half with all players making valuable contributions. Unfortunately we got off to a slow start in the third quarter which gave Abbey a chance to take the lead and also build confidence going into the 4th quarter. The team made some adjustments in the second half which brought us back into the game but we were not able to close the gap. Abbey closed the game out with free throws as Marian were forced to foul to try and stop the clock.
The game brought to an end a very successful season for the Under 19 team as they finished runner up in Leinster and progressed further in the All-Ireland than they have in recent years. The team will greatly miss the contributions of exiting 6th year students Arvy Villamor, Dylan Flynn, Geoffrey Geronimo, Kyle Perocillo and John Tauro. They have each represented the school very well for the past 6 years and we wish them the best in the future.
BIG WIN FOR U19 BASKETBALL

The under 19 basketball team qualified for the All-Ireland league competition by finishing runners-up in Dublin and had their first game in the competition on Friday 15th. The game was away to CBS Ennistymon in Co. Clare which meant an early start for the team leaving the school at 7am.
The team's dedication to training over the past few weeks paid huge dividends as they turned in one of their best performances of the season in front of a large (and loud) home crowd.
Led by 6th year Dylan Flynn the team played a great team game moving the ball on offense and keying in on the best player on the other team on defense. After a fast start the home team slowly brought themselves back into the game however Marian never looked under threat to lose and showed great composure throughout the game. Each player contributed hugely to a massive team win.
Next up is Abbey Vocational School from Donegal on Wednesday. A win there will see the under 19s on the road again to travel to Cork next Sunday.
