The under 16 and under 19 basketball teams have had a hugely successful campaign so far in 2015. Both teams progressed far in the prestigious All-Ireland Cup with the under 19 team getting though to the last 16 and the under 16 team managing to go one round further and reach the quarter final stage. Unfortunately after a long trip to Waterford both teams were knocked out by very strong De La Salle, Waterford teams.
On the home front both teams have gone through the season unbeaten so far to qualify for the quarter final stage of the Dublin league as top of their respective groups. The teams have recorded big wins against local rivals St. Conleths, Colaiste Eoin, High School and St. Benildus. The team have been playing a high paced style of basketball which is proving too much for our opposition.
The players have been exceptional so far this year and have put themselves in a very good position to make a Dublin final. For the under 16 team in particular Gerome Cacho has stood out for his scoring ability with Joshua Gumpal doing an excellent job running the team from the point guard position. The under 19 team have been a well rounded team to date with different players stepping up to contribute in each game. Special mention must go to Linas Miezlaiskis though from 5th year who has been our most consistent player throughout and is playing at a very high level.
The team looks forward now to a home Dublin quarter final draw after the mid-term break with high expectations of advancing further.

A fabulous victory for senior soccer squad in their leinster senior cup game against Colaiste Éanna today. Éanna are all Ireland champions and following our very poor and indiscipined game against Clonkeen last Friday when we lost 4 0, my hopes were not very high.
However the lads proved me wrong. Led superbly by James Bailey, who scored a hat trick, Marian raced into a 2 nil lead. They pulled one back and disaster struck when Jason Murphy had to be carried off. Conor McKenzie came on for his first outing of the year and played quite well. Brian Sheedy moved into centre half and had a really good game. In the first ten minutes of the second half, Éanna got level at 3-3, but Andy Doolin scored after a great run by James Bailey. *4 3 with 12 minutes to go. However, Éanna raised the pressure again and equalised. Daniel Lane came on and did well. Then James Bailey scored his third goal which proved to be the winner. The referee said James third goal was as good as you'd see in the Premiership and with Andy Doolin making a good run before making a sublime pass to James who had run into space onto the box and finished brilliantly.Gavin O Toole played well and scored the third goal.
Well done to everyone. A great victory and we're back on track!

The annual clash between Marian College and Maidwell Hall (Northhampton, England) was held in Donnybrook yesterday 22/10/15. Marian had a great start, almost scoring in the early minutes and holding a strong defense against the more experienced Maidwell side. The English side scored two tries before half time, bringing the score to 10-0.
Marian continued to play well and create chances, with a break by David McKenna nearly leading to a try, while Tarek Irmeche led the forwards brilliantly in both attack and defense.
A great move involving constant pressure by the backs and forwards led to Stephen Dima scoring under the posts with a conversion by Paddy Whelan.
The final score was 20-7 to Maidwell Hall, with both sides congratulating each other and sitting with each other as the coaches gave their final speeches.
Well done to the whole Marian squad, they were a credit to themselves and the college.
A special thanks to Ken Knaggs (Leinster Branch) who organised the venue and refereed the game.

Marian College Marian college u14 rugby team secured a brilliant 61-19 win over blackrock u14s today. The squad had control of the game from the beginning and didnt ease the pressure for the entire 60 minutes. Scores came from both backs and forwards with a special mention for second row Milan Ezes who made a break from inside the Marian half and made it to the opposition 22 before being tackled, but managed to make a perfect offload to Jake Ryan who placed the ball between the posts for his 2nd try.
