All six boxers did very well showing off the skills they have learned over the past two months of training with Olympian Michael Carruth. A further 20 supporters from first year accompanied the boxers and were a credit to the school. The first year showcase was a great success and the transition year showcase next Monday is sure to be a knockout too! Well done again to our six boxers.

MARIAN THROUGH TO SEMI'S

Firhouse CC 2-3 Marian College (Fox,Stanley,Freeman) Dean Fitzpatrick,Seán Fitzpatrick,Kevin Albu,Conor Mooney,Leon Montgomery,Callam Stanley,Paul Fox,Josh Murphy,Luke Freeman,Sergio Camerero and Martín Hernandez. Joshua Hotca for Stanley. Marian advance to the semi-final stage of the Metropolitan League by claiming a 3-2 win away to Firhouse and maintain their 100% record this season. Marian started brightly and looked to be in control for the early stages and took a deserved lead when Paul Fox headed home from close range from a Callam Stanley ball after some good work on the left from Montgomery and Freeman. After the opener however Marian fell asleep and stopped playing football. This allowed Firhouse to gain control and some sloppy defending led to the Firhouse equaliser. Marian really needed to put in a good second half performance if they were going to pull it off. Josh Murphy grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and pushed Marian forward. They were rewarded early in the second half when a brilliant move from a free saw Montgonery pass to Sean Fitz who passed again outside to Murphy who beat 2 players before crossing to Joshua Hotca who's gliding header found Callam Stanley who finished from 2 yards. Montgomery was now controlling the back line for Marian and the 3rd goal came when Freeman rounded the keepe to make it 3-1. Firhouse scored a consolation goal in injury time but it's Marian who advance to the semi-finals with 3 wins from 3. Best for Marian were Callam Stanley,Sean Fitz and man of the match Josh Murphy.

UNDER 19 BASKETBALL TEAM INTO FINAL

It was a mixed day for the basketball teams as the under 16 team were narrowly beaten in their semi final today while the under 19 team were able to secure their place in the final. The under 16 team put in a great performance but came up just short at the end against a strong Colaiste Chiarain team. Marian started the game very well and took an early lead but unfortunately in the second half the introduction of a zone defense by the opposition and some tired legs meant we weren't able to close out the game the same way we started it. The team will now go into the 3rd and 4th place playoff. The under 19 team had a much happier day coming out winners in a very close encounter with St. Davids. It was an excellent team performance with everybody on the court contributing to the win. Geoffrey Geronimo was great on the boards and Alec Tolentino's efficient offense kept the scoreboard ticking over. Captain Arvy Villamor left the game with an injury in the 3rd quarter but not before contributing some key points as we weathered a St. Davids storm. John Tauro was in the form of his life on offense contributing a season-high 35 points to the win and with Erikas Skinderis playing great defense on the oppositions best player Marian were able to get a lead just before the half which we wouldn't relinquish. Player of the game was Linas Miezlaiskis who is proving himself to be an irreplaceable part of the team with his highly effective play on both ends of the floor.

Marian College suffered defeat in their first group game of the championship in Sean Moore Park today. Playing against a strong team from Donaghmeade, GC Reachrann, Marian played into a strong wind in the first half and struggled in the opening five minutes with the opposition playing a two man full forward line. Marian played their way into the game and with neat passing in midfield and the half-back line set up a number of attacks. Despite playing into a strong breeze Marian trailed by only two goals at the break. The second half started brightly for Marian passing accurately and kicking some nice scores but the opposition got to grips in midfield and started to dominate the kick outs and possession. In the end Marian ran out of steam losing on a score line of 10-8 to 5-4. Although they were beaten there were many positives about the performance and with more training the second game in the group is very winnable. Best for Marian on the day were Brandon Kinsella and Mark Stafford in defence, goal scorers Andy Doolin and Paul Fox and forwards Dean Fitzpatrick and Will Hickey.
