On Thursday before the Easter Break the staff and students in Solas enjoyed a trip to the National Stud and Japanese Gardens. A great day was had by all.
In addition we had our Non Uniform Day on Friday to promote Autism Awareness in School, where the students chose the colour red to represent them. We raised a fantastic amount of money and would like to thank all who donated.

Welcome Back for the Last Term.

Welcome back to everyone for the final term of the 2021-22 school year. I hope you have enjoyed a restful time off and that you feel recharged to meet the next term. Time has really flown and we survived with no further lock downs or shut downs. Exams are returning to a normal schedule and projects are being completed if not completed to their usual deadlines.
Just a reminder today that all students are to wear their normal school uniform in all 5 days of the week. On the days they have PE, they will revert to using the changing rooms in the Sports Facility to change into their PE gear, which includes their CBS half zip.
Before the lockdown, most schools had PE uniform gear. We never did until September 2021 when we brought in the CBS PE uniform gear which raised the standards for how our students were turned out when doing PE. We mean to continue with these high standards and expect the uniform PE to be worn, as has been the case this last 7 months. We appreciate the support of parents/guardians who have purchased it and I am sure that you welcome sending your son to a school that expects the students to be well turned out in line with the motto of our school, 'From Each Their Best'.

Best of Luck to All Our Exam Students Today!

We wish all our students who are beginning their exams this morning the very best of luck. Be on time, there will be a short assembly for both year groups at 9am. Then into the exam centres. Time to get settled, take several deep breaths and get yourself ready to carefully read your papers.
Don't leave earlier than the full time of the exam - you've spent 2 or 3 years preparing for a few hours of an exam, why leave after 30 or 60 minutes?
Read and then re-read the instructions and then the questions.
Choose the ones you can do, making sure you are doing the correct number of questions in each section.
Write down the time you need to end Q1, begin Q2, finish that, etc. And stick to that plan.
If you have time you can return to an unfinished question and add more - even if you haven't left the space, write a note and say the end of this answer can be found somewhere else in your answer book.
Be sure you've numbered your answers and the parts of them correctly - this is really important for the LC answers especially.
And remember there is life after the LC/JC and most of all there are so many ways to get where you need to be in this world without 600 points. Don't over stress yourself. Take care of yourself. It is the end of another stage of your life and you'll soon begin the next chapter in a few weeks.

Portlaoise CBS 2-14 Cross and Passion Kilcullen 3-8
Second Year South Leinster ‘C’ Football Championship Final
Portlaoise CBS were crowned Second Year South Leinster ‘C’ Football champions following victory over Cross and Passion Kilcullen this morning.
They had to contend with snow showers and a bitterly cold wind but, led by the heroics of Darren Brennan, Josh Finn and Oran Darcy in attack, they came good in the end to win.
Kilcullen played with the wind in the first half in The Heath and scored straight from the throw in via the powerful Conor Duggan – a player who would have a big impact on the game.
Oran Darcy levelled the game soon after and then Portlaoise grabbed the game’s first goal when Josh Finn picked out Darren Brennan and he fired low to the net.
Darcy, Finn and Brennan then pointed to give Portlaoise CBS a commanding lead but it did not last.
CBS keeper Fergal Naughton made a brilliant save to deny Josh Kelly from point blank range but the resulting 45 from Conor Duggan ended up in the net.
And the game was level in the 17th minute when Duggan carved the CBS defence open and picked out Josh Finn who scored the game’s third goal from the angle.
The sides swapped points from there to the finish to leave it deadlocked at half time – 2-3 to 1-6.
Kilcullen were now playing against the wind but they made a good start to the half with a brace of Rocco Roche frees.
And then disaster struck for the CBS when a Roche effort came back off the upright and Adam Barry pounced for a goal to put five between them.
The CBS responded through Ryan Doran and then cut the gap to the minimum when Finn combined with Brennan for the latter to score his second goal of the game.
That left it 3-6 to 2-10 but the CBS would get the next three points to move ahead.
Oran Darcy curled over two lovely efforts before Brennan took his tally for the day to 2-5.
Kilcullen responded through Roche and only a brilliant tackle for Cormac Deegan stopped them from potentially having a fourth goal as he snuffed out a very dangerous attack.
In the end, Josh Finn had the final say as his point off the outside of his boot brought proceedings to a close and the CBS were champions.
SCORERS – Portlaoise CBS: Darren Brennan 2-5 (two frees), Oran Darcy 0-5, Josh Finn 0-3, Ryan Doran 0-1 Kilcullen: Rocco Roche 0-5 (four frees), Conor Duggan and Adam Barry 1-1 each, Josh Finn 1-0, Senan Gallagher 0-1
