We will have a selection of novels available to take away for some summer reading. It is part of our Wellread Programme within the school to encourage all of us to read for pleasure.

1st Year Lego Robotics Club Winners!

A massive congratulations to the 1st Year Lego Robotics Club on winning 1st place in Robot Design at the Cargo Connect Lego League Challenge at the Laois Education Centre yesterday. The students designed, built, and coded a robot to complete tasks on a playing field, and also designed an innovation project involving improvements to the An Post distribution centre.
This is a huge achievement for the students, as it is the school’s first time competing in the Lego League. Well done to all! @laois_education_centre #Lego #Robotics #STEAM #FromEachTheirBest
Transition Year Student reaches Microsoft Office Specialist UK and Ireland Championship!

Congratulations to Transition Year Student Kristers Melnis on reaching the Microsoft Office Specialist UK and Ireland Championship. Kristers was one of just 25 students chosen across Ireland and the UK based on his Microsoft Office testing scores. He scored 86% in his exam on the day, what an excellent result at such a high standard. Kristers is pictured here with Billie Breen, the Irish manager of Prodigy Learning and Dr. Kevin Marshall, Head of Microsoft Education Ireland. He had a fantastic day, working with Minecraft and Microbit Workshops as well as receiving a tour of Microsoft Headquarters Ireland. Congrats to Desmond Peters who was crowned 100m Champion in the South Leinster Schools Track and Field yesterday. He will now go on to represent the school in the Leinster Finals in 2 weeks. Charles Ogundere also had a class performance in the 200m race where he finished 3rd in the Final. Congrats guys!
The 3 Aaron's were fond of the number 4 yesterday; where Aaron Foley came 4th in the Discus, Shot Putt and the Long Jump where he managed to earn a personal best! Well done Aaron.
Aaron Branagan had a brilliant heat in the U16 Boys 200m qualifying to the final and finishing in a strong 4th. And Aaron Keane had a great performance in the High Jump getting a huge pb also finishing 4th!
Well done to all who competed on the day and we are glad the sun was out for you!

Yesterday as part of Mental Health Awareness week we had Portlaoise Community Gardaí Aaran and Annie in to talk to 2nd and 5th year students about Coco’s Law, the importance of online safety. They also spoke about acceptable and advisable screen times, along with the consequences for sharing material online and the effects it can have on someone's mental Health.

Sports Day - Just two days to go!!

The countdown is on for this years Sports Day - only 2 days to go!! Guaranteed fun and excitement - ice-cream, crêpes and lots more!
The cost of the day will be €2 per student. €1 goes towards the Sports Day and another €1 goes to a Mental Health Charity; students are encouraged to wear bright clothes for the non-uniform day to promote awareness of Mental Health!
