Congratulations to the U16 rugby boys who had a spectacular win today away to Kennedy College, New Ross. The final score of the game was 65-23, with Conn Dowling scoring his first try and receiving the man of the match award on his first ever rugby debut. Excellent passion and enthusiasm was shown by the boys in representing our school today, and they were commended by both Kennedy College and the referee for their excellent sportsmanship, and encouragement of their opposition. Thank you to their coaches Mr Ryan& Mr Dooley!

Irish Community Rapid Response Air Ambulance to land on our soccer pitch tomorrow morning!

Tomorrow morning, Thursday October 18th, an air ambulance, (chopper), will land on our soccer pitch as part of a campaign to raise awareness of the work they do. Some of you may know people who have been airlifted to hospital. Several doctors in Portlaoise do volunteer work with ICRR. Ringing 999 or 112 may draw a response from this air ambulance if you were in need of a rapid transfer to a Dublin hospital or you were in a very out of reach area where road transport would not reach you. The landing is to take place at 10.45 tomorrow approximately and they are here for an hour. They will demonstrate some of the work they do. There will be outside visitors to the pitch and we are also invited to attend. As always, health and safety is the priority. Anyone attending under teacher supervision must follow instructions and be on best behaviour. Something different to look forward to!

Eureka, IT Carlow, are running a competition which asks students in all years to create an inspirational STEM A3 poster, relating to the theme “Believe in Science”. The competition will be judged separately for Junior and Senior cycle and prizes awarded for each category. Please see Ms. Broomfield for the list of rules and an application form. All entries need to be given to your science teacher by Wednesday, October 24th.

We are holding an in house creative writing competition for FIRST YEAR STUDENTS ONLY - Any student interested is required to write a post match report following the Republic of Ireland Vs Wales game tonight - Tuesday October 16th in the Aviva Stadium, Dublin at 19.45 and must submit it to Ms Hyland by this Friday October 19th. We will have an in school competition in which the winner will receive a small (possibly edible) prize
